Research Interests

I study dynamical systems and probability, with applications to biology and linguistics. Some of my recent projects include modeling how children learn the syntax and semantics of raising and control verbs, and how social structure can lead to spontaneous language changes. My current research projects include evolutionary simulations of neural networks, and optimal stopping of stochastic processes. I do a lot of programming in Haskell, Python, and Mathematica, primarily on Linux. I love learning new math and applications, and lately I've become interested in geometric algebra, quantum computing, phylogenetics, and tropical geometry.
