The Mathematics Department has set guidelines for ALEKS scores necessary to place into most introductory level math courses at the College of Charleston. Students are urged to discuss their ALEKS placement score with their advisor before enrolling in a course. Students who score below 20 on ALEKS who want to enroll in Math 103 or Math 104 are strongly advised to remediate with the ALEKS Prep and Learning modules before registering for these courses.  In the first year of using ALEKS, while data is being gathered and analyzed, the College of Charleston will allow students to enroll in Math 103 and Math 104 upon the completion of the ALEKS math placement test, regardless of their ALEKS score. However, students are urged to do their best on the ALEKS test in order to place into a subsequent course after completing either Math 103 or Math 104.
