Final Exam: The final exam is a departmental exam. The exam will be given on Wednesday, December 17 from 8-11 am.
Test dates: There will be three tests on the following dates:
Test 1: September 18
Test 2: October 23
Test 3: November
20
Homework: Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. The homework for each section of the text will also be posted on the course website. Assignments will be collected and graded using WebAssign. Students are encouraged to discuss the homework with one another. Homework will be discussed once a week in class.
Worksheets: There will be worksheets on Thursdays. The worksheets will be done in small groups (2-4 people) and may contain old or new material. Worksheets will be collected and graded. You have not learned the material until you are able to solve problems independently and to explain concepts in a precise manner.
Missed tests and worksheets: There are no make-ups allowed on tests or worksheets. Missing any of these will result in a grade of 0 for that assignment or test. If you have a documented excuse from Student Affairs for a missed test the final exam score will replace the missed test score. Missing the final exam is cause for failing the course.
Grading Policy: Each Test contributes 20% of your final grade, the Final exam 35%, and the Homework and Worksheets the remaining 15%. Minor adjustments in weighting may be done at the end of the semester.
Calculator Policy: It is mathematics department policy that between 50% and 100% of each midterm exam and the final will consist of a no-calculator section. You are not required to buy a particular calculator, but I will assume everyone has a calculator comparable to a TI-83/85/86.
Tips and information:
á October 7 is the last day to withdraw from the course with a grade of W.
á The Math Lab, located on the first floor of the library, provides free tutoring services. The usual hours are 9am-9pm Mon-Thurs, 9am-2pm Friday. Call them for more precise schedule information.
á Use your old algebra and pre-calculus books, or ShaumÕs outline series as references. These subjects are pre-requisites and will not be reviewed in class. You may also wish to consult the reviews on the website www.stewartcalculus.com.
á Homework will be collected and graded via WebAssign, an online homework tutorial and grading system.
