Math 120 : Introductory Calculus I

Course Text:  Single Variable Calculus, Early Transcendental Functions, 4th Ed. by Stewart, Brookes/Cole 1999.

Lecture:    Section 007   (4)     MWF 1:00-01:50 PM  and Thurs 1:40-2:55 PM, MAYBANK HALL (MYBK) 117

Course Description: (4) The techniques of calculus will be stressed. Topics include functions, limits and continuity, derivatives, the Mean Value theorem, applications of derivatives, the Riemann integral, application of the integral, the fundamental theorem of integral calculus, and logarithmic and exponential functions.

Prerequisite: MATH 111 or placement.

Calculator: Portions of the exams and homework may require a graphing calculator such as the TI-86.

Last day for students to Drop/Add for full semester and Express I classes; Last day of 100% refund:  Sunday, January15

No class:  Monday, January 16 - Martin Luther King holiday

Last day for students to withdraw with a W from Spring semester classes:   Tuesday, February  21

Spring Break:  Week of March 5

Midterm exams:  Feb. 6,  Mar. 13,  and April 10.

Final Exam :  There will be a common final on  May 1/Monday, 08:00-11:00 A.M. (Maybank 117) .

Note:  Make up tests will be given only under extraordinary circumstances.  If you miss an exam, you must obtain a written excuse from the Dean of Undergraduate Studies.

Grading Policy:  There will be three midterms on  Feb. 6,  Mar. 13,  and April 10.  Each midterm will be worth 15%, the final will be worth 40% and the homework 15%.   The lower bound percentages for the various grades are given below:
