Friday Morning Short Courses

These are held on Friday morning, before the rest of the conference, and an optional buffet lunch is available for participants for $8. (Selections includes Smoked Turkey & Pepper Jack, Roast Beef and Cheddar, and Egg Salad sandwiches.)

Registration for these courses and for the lunch is required by Friday March 18.

There will be two SIAM Regional Student Chapters Special Sessions, organized by Susanne Brenner brenner@math.sc.edu and Li-yeng Sung sung@math.sc.edu of the University of South Carolina, with the assistance of the SIAM Student Chapter Advisors: Michael Benzi, Chris Cox, Suzanne Lenhart, A.J. Meier, Shari Moskow, James Nagy, Paul Schmidt, Michael Shearer and Ralph Smith.

There will also be four sessions of twenty minute contributed papers.

The deadline for registration is Monday February 21. Details of speakers and talks are now in the conference timetable.

Math Jeopardy Contest

SIAM-SEAS will again sponsor a Math Jeopardy Contest for undergraduate students, organized by Dinesh Sarvate of the College of Charleston. Undergraduate students will compete in teams of three or four students. Each team will be required, in the spirit of the popular TV game show, to provide questions to answers about topics in calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and computer science. Trophies will be presented, and SIAM may be able to provide funds to each participating school to offset student travel costs.

The deadline for registration is Monday February 21.

Conference Dinner at the Beach!

We will have our conference dinner at the Citadel Beach House on Friday evening. It is located at 4700 Palm Blvd on the Isle of Palms. It will be a casual dinner including treats such as plantation shrimp pilaf, chicken and sausage jambalaya, southern veggies and chocolate bread pudding trifle!

And yes ... it will be on one of Charleston nicest beaches, so bring your walking shoes or sandals and plan to have a fun evening!
