Exploring the Properties of Stratified Fluids: Vertical Jets (Jamie
Walsh, UNC-Chapel Hill)
Abstract:
The main focus of our research has been the properties of stratified
fluids, most especially the behavior of a plume from a vertical jet as
it moves through a stratified tank. Although the issue we are most
intersted in is when the plume rises to the top of the tank based on
bouancy, we also measure its height, varying the location of the jet,
density of both fluid layers, and the temperature and density of the
jet fluid.
