1:15PM-2:00PM Math Brainstorm
Location: See personalized schedule in Confirmation Packet.
... Each team of up to four students from each school will work together to solve a set of problems using algebra, geometry and trigonometry. One member of the team will have to pick up the question and take it to the room where the team members are waiting and then someone will walk the answers back for collection. (Running is not allowed.)

Note that the other three team members will have to wait patiently for the fourth member to return with the question. It may take some time for the questions to be distributed in 219 Maybank Hall.

1:30PM-2:15PM Cutting Edge Math Talk by Amy Langville
Location: 115 Beatty (Wach.Aud.)
... Our own Amy Langville will give a talk at Math Meet 2010. Let us tell you just a bit about Professor Langville so you will see why teachers and students alike should try to attend this talk. Amy does fascinating math research with students. (For example, students from her class were interviewed on NPR and CBS's Early Show about their basketball prediction project.) She has an innovative teaching style. (In fact, she earned a prestigious CAREER award from the NSF.) She is the co-author of a leading book on the mathematics underlying the Google search algorithm. And, she is one of an elite group of mathematicians invited to address the U.S. Congress by the American Mathematical Society. (And we cannot help mentioning also that she builds boats and started a charity that helps poor people in foreign countries!)

We have not yet determined exactly what she will speak about here, but it will probably include a video about Google's ranking algorithm and samples of the research projects students have done in her classes...and it will definitely be worth attending.

1:45PM-2:00PM All-Day Sprint Collection
Location: Maybank Hall / Main Entra
... In the packet teachers receive in the morning there are All-Day Sprint Questions. These questions, which are not necessarily entirely mathematical, can be worked on by students during any free time during the day. A single answer sheet will be turned in for each school, so it is a group effort. Generally, these questions involve decoding and perhaps knowledge of some non-mathematical subjects including geography or history. (The teachers are not allowed to help the students with these questions!)

The answers will be collected at this time and the winner selected at random from the correctly completed answer forms.

1:45PM-2:30PM Jr Varsity Team Elim / Round 3
Location: Physicians Auditorium
... Only two schools compete in the final round of this competition for 9th and 10th grade teams. Run in Quiz Bowl format, the event is open to spectators.
2:15PM-2:45PM Math Team Relay
Location: See personalized schedule in Confirmation Packet.
... The members of each 4 person team (only one team from each school) will answer questions in series. That is, the question each team member answers depends on the answer of the member who came before them so that all four members must answer correctly for the final answer to be correct. The earlier questions are designed to be answered by students at lower grade levels, so that the ideal team would be made up of one student in each grade from 9-12.
2:30PM-3:15PM Varsity Team Elim / Round 3
Location: Physicians Auditorium
... Only two schools compete in the final round of this competition for 11th and 12th grade teams. Run in Quiz Bowl format, the event is open to spectators.
3:30PM-4:15PM Award Ceremony
Location: Physicians Auditorium
... Winners are announced; prizes and trophies are distributed. All are welcome to attend.
