Job Description:
- Automated Trading Desk (ATD) is a company which buys and sells shares on Wall Street using mathematical algorithms to determine when and what to trade. In fact, when the company was started, one founder was at the time a recent recipient of an undergraduate mathematics degree from the College of Charleston.
- Kellen proprietarily trades equities and writes algorithmic software to trade equities.
Math on the Job:
- General problem solving skills and a good bit of statistics are involved in Kellen's day-to-day activities, but most of the specific mathematics he learned while earning his degree has no immediate relevance to this job.
Background:
- In 2005, Kellen received both a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and a B.S. in Economics from the College of Charleston.
Advice for Current Students:
- "Your GPA matters. Internships can lead to incredible jobs. Statistics courses maybe boring, but they are probably the most valuable courses you will take. Make the most of your freedom as an undergrad, meaning travel and purse your dreams. You may never have the level freedom again."
