Mathematics Major


Teacher Education Program

This track is designed for students who are planning to become high school math teachers. Requirements include admission to and successful completion of the approved teacher education program administered by the School of Education.

Required Courses for all math majors:

  • MATH 120: Introductory Calculus
  • MATH 203: Linear Algebra
  • MATH 220: Calculus II
  • MATH 221: Calculus III
  • MATH 295: Introduction to Abstract Mathematics
  • Capstone Experience
Required Courses for prospective teachers:
  • MATH 245: Numerical Methods
    MATH 246: Mathematical Computing Lab
  • MATH 250: Statistical Methods I
  • MATH 303: Abstract Algebra I
  • MATH 320: History of Mathematics
  • MATH 323: Differential Equations
  • MATH 340: Axiomatic Geometry
  • MATH 450: Discrete Mathematical Models
  • MATH 530: Mathematical Statistics I
  • Successful completion of all requirements for certification in secondary education.
  • Student teaching, with a written report to the mathematics department will satisfy the Capstone Experience requirement in this option.
